While everyone knows that you need to hit the gym or do some kind of physical exercise to get a fitter body, there is not much that people know about how to shed the excess face flab aka the dreaded double chin.
The dumbbells don’t really help here. What does help is the facial exercises or face yoga!
It has many other benefits too like making you look much younger by not just giving you a razor-sharp jawline, but also a lifted face, firm skin and a healthy glow.
We got in touch with skincare and wellness expert Dr Sonakshi S, Consultant Dermatologist and Cosmetologist, Ara Skin Clinic (dr.sonakshi_sunil on Instagram) who laid down some really effective face yoga moves to look younger.
She says, “Face yoga is the most non-invasive, non-toxic, and inexpensive way to look younger as it helps in cheek lift, reduction of double chin, reduction of dark circles, and boosting localised circulation and lymphatic drainage.”
Here are some face yoga moves you can try:

1. For A Chiselled Face
The Cheek Lifter: Form an “O” with your mouth, then lay your upper lip on your top row of teeth. Smile, and place your fingers gently on top of your cheeks. Release your muscles and lower your smile. Repeat.
The happy-cheeks sculpting: Purse your lips, and smile without showing teeth. Place fingers on the corners of your mouth, and slide them up toward the tops of your cheeks. Hold for 20 seconds.
2. For A Sharp Jawline
Fish Face: Just suck your cheeks and lips inwards like a fish and feel your cheek muscles stretch. Hold this position for a few counts.
Puffer Fish Press: Also called the mouthwash technique, also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth. Close your mouth and puff up your cheeks, and move the air inside from one side to the other. Repeat for 30 seconds.
3. For Dark circles
The V Squint: Make a V with the index and middle fingers under both your eyes. Next, dab your index finger around the circle of your eyes. This helps drain the lymphatic fluid from your under-eye bags while stimulating blood circulation. Repeat this step 3 to 5 times.
Pat Around Eye Motion: Take your index finger and start patting around your eyes, in a circular motion. Do this for 30 seconds and you will notice that your eyes are instantly de-puffed, and the skin around the eyes is smoother as well.
Face yoga has definitely interested people all over the world but it is important that such things must be practised under the prior guidance of a professional, as a constant movement if not done right can cause wrinkles called dynamic wrinkles, for example, crow’s-feet, laugh lines, and forehead wrinkles.
Also remember, sweaty hands carry dirt, oil, and bacteria that can clog pores and cause breakouts. So always clean them before practising yoga.
